The Heavenly Bodies of Talmenor
I finally got around to fleshing out my notes on this. Contrary to default belief, Talmenor has more than one moon!
The Heavenly Bodies of Talmenor
Talmenor is about the size of Earth. It orbits one sun, and has six major moons. Four other planets are visible to the naked eye and hence known to scholars and magi. Unless stated otherwise, these planets and moons have atmospheres suitable for humans, but are rarely traveled to.
The Moons
Ra, the First Daughter
Astrology: Moon
Just like Earth’s moon. A shard of the first sun goddess, kept by Talmenor as a keepsake.
Re, the Second Son
Astrology: Mercury
(The First Son is the actual sun.) Technically an orbiting comet, usually appears as a large white tail or smear that crosses the sky. Believed to have been crafted for Merrana as a courtship gift by Suorr’Lun, and now Merrana’s Sphere. Mostly non-solid surface with no breathable air.
G’brorr, the Water Moon, or Sphere of Water
Astrology: Venus
Water/ocean planet, often seen in the sky as a gibbous moon, colored blue. Somewhat larger than Ra. Believed to be Jarilon’s Sphere.
Mauloth, the Blood Moon
Astrology: Mars
A red desert moon, bigger than Ra by half. Believed to be the site of a battle between gods in the mythic era, now a no man’s land. Though now an inhospitable atmosphere, it was once inhabited and known for its light gravity, allowing warriors to “super-jump” across its surface. Its orbit is uneven, usually appearing as a crescent, and the rare times it appears to be full are correlated with deathly prophecies.
Khanaan, Sphere of Life
Astrology: Jupiter
Green and yellow moon that is home to teeming jungles and tall-grass plains. Lunaria’s Sphere. Its phases and size roughly match Ra’s; some prophecies are tied to when these moons are both full, both new, or one of each.
Tyr, the Sentinel Moon
Astrology: Saturn
A yellow desert moon, a third of Ra’s size. Atmosphere is barely hospitable – humans would tire easily and feel lighter, as if uplifted by a divine presence. Carro’s Sphere. Is almost always full.
The Planets
Gehelnom, Sphere of Damnation
Closest to the sun, tidally locked so that one side is always facing the sun. This sun-side is a fiery hellscape, while the other is dark and cold. Only some places have atmospheres habitable for humans, kept so by demonic magic, for the Gehelians’ slaves and visitors. A little bigger than Earth. Usually casts a yellow light in the night sky.
Caramyr, Sphere of Fire
Second closest to the sun, a planet of volcanoes, black rocky steppes, and mudflats. Casts a red light. Mistakenly believed to be Sirillon’s home Sphere, it is also named for being the site of one of Carro’s many trials. Slightly smaller than Earth.
Naias, Sphere of Air
A gas giant, second to furthest out from the sun. Casts a blue-white light. The upper layers are breathable, though creatures that fall too far are dragged into the core and crushed by atmospheric pressure. Much larger than Earth.
Reszia, the Second Daughter, the Obelisk
A hollowed out asteroid that orbits farthest out of the known planets. Has a Saturn-like ring of attending spirits. Once the workshop of Shen-Bahan, now imprisons Althrasia. Earth could just barely fit inside. Barely visible as a small violet pinprick.
